Hercules C130 on runway

Ladies Mile Emergency Runway (2nd)

Submission to the Hearing Panel of the draft Ladies Mile Master Plan

Date: 9 June 2023

The council-led plan change to enable development alongside Ladies Mile was rejected in 2021, but QLDC submitted the proposal to the central government’s fast planning process.

Our submission again asked that the 80 m building restriction zone be protected on both sides of the highway and that the landscape plan be amended to avoid large tree planting.

An alternative emergency runway is an essential prerequisite for any discussion of relocating or closing Queenstown Airport. Our goal is to protect the potential adaption of the Ladies Mile stretch of SH6 to serve this purpose during civil emergencies.
