Annual Plan challenge

Submission to the Queenstown Lakes Climate and Biodiversity Plan

We challenge QLDC to front up on its three-year-old declaration of a climate emergency.

Council refuses to grapple with the big structural changes needed to combat climate change. While urban environments contribute a third of global emissions and the IPCC urgently calls on city planners to adapt, council continues to ignore the most powerful way it could achieve future urban density and transport mode shift.

Our submission shows how the densification of Frankton would substantially reduce urban life-cycle emissions and accelerate the transition to a low emissions economy.

We ask the council to commission an expert assessment of GHG emission comparing its current spatial plan with our FlighPlan2050 proposal.
